So, you know where to go skiing, but how do you get there? How do you meet other people that like to ski or snowboard and might like to go with you? Oh, and don’t forget about those high gas prices, maybe there’s a way to catch a shuttle or carpool to the mountain to cut gas costs? If you find yourself asking those questions, then you might be interested in finding a group or club near you that focuses on helping snow riding enthusiasts connect and get to the mountain.
Snowriders is a Colorado State University Student Organization that is focused on connecting students across campus who love to ski and snowboard. The club is open to everyone who wants to go, no matter their experience or level, as long as they want to have fun.
Snowriders offers a multitude of opportunities and benefits as soon as you join. Club members get to enjoy a t-shirt, discounts from local ski shops and club sponsors, as well as “giveaways” at each meeting like gear or lift tickets to local mountains; all this with the annual member fee of twenty-five dollars. Members also get to enjoy discounted shuttle rides to the mountains each week, special events, and out of state trips.
Thought it’s usually about getting to the mountain, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes of Snowriders. To really understand the passion that goes into the club, I caught up with the two Co-Presidents of Snowriders, Robert Mahoney, Communication Studies major, and Brian Vanderpool, senior Natural Resources and Sociology major.
Check out the Snowriders on Facebook, at the Rocky Mountain Collegian , CSU website, and at the official Snowriders website.Interview with Vanderpool and Mahoney
If you can’t find a specifically geared ski/snowboard club near you, don’t worry. You might want to check out the local Recreation Center newsletter or website for trips, outdoor clubs and lessons. Or try an online search for a club or try MapMuse to locate a local ski club.
